Drink Yo Water!

Ahhhhhhhhh...water is so good...and so boring and invisible and hard to remember!!! We know our bodies need it--at least 8 cups a day (more if it’s hot, dry or we’ve been exercising hard). We all know we should drink it...so why’s it so hard to get in the H20 we need??

You hear it over and over again...DRINK YOUR WATER.  But seriously, DO IT.  Here's why...

Bottom line is that we need water to live!  We lose it through processes like breathing, sweating, and exercise.  Water plays a role in so many functions of the body!  It dissolves other substances...meaning it moves things around in our body to carry nutrients to our cells & carry waste products away from them.  It helps synthesize protein & glycogen (what carbs turn into in the body).

It also lubricates the tissue in our bodies!  You know when you slip on water on the floor? The water decreases friction so you slip!  In our bodies, the water lubricates our joints and helps them absorb shock!  Think about what happens when something lacks moisture....it's brittle, dry, and weak.  Our bodies need water to function at its best! We NEED water to thrive!

It regulates our temperature when we exercise or sweat.  If you find yourself thirsty, you're actually already a little dehydrated.  Interesting right?  You want to stay ahead of the game!  Dehydration affects our brain, attention, and performance!  Failure to stay hydrated means your performance and energy WILL be affected!

SIGNS YOU MAY BE DEHYDRATED:

Headaches

Nausea

Dizziness/fainting

Fatigue

You should go ahead & assume you need more water than you think!  Because you're probably not getting enough. #truth ....If you train or exercise regularly, you ESPECIALLY need to be up on your water!  A good starting point is to aim for 1/2 your body weight in oz. of water!  But honestly shoot for more!  We aim to get a gallon of water a day.

Here are some of our favorite strategies to stay hydrated!

SIP BEFORE EVERY MEAL

Drinking two cups of water before a meal will keep you hydrated, fuller, and may even boost your metabolism for an hour! And all you need to do is turn on your tap!

DRINK A GLASS AFTER EVERY BATHROOM BREAK

Start a habit by linking water with some of your most common daily activities. Getting up from your desk for a bathroom break? Stop by the kitchen to chug a glass of water after leaving the restroom. Every time you pass the water cooler, fill up a cup.

KEEP A GALLON JUG NEARBY

It’s easy to remember to fill up on water when the source is nearby. Keep a gallon jug or large carafe at your desk, by the bed at home, and on the kitchen counter as a constant reminder to drink up. Mark up your jug by ounces or even hours to help you reach your personal water goal each day. Plus, you’ll know exactly how many times you need to refill!

GET A GOOD WATER BOTTLE

In our minds Hyrdroflask and Hydrojugs are the brands to beat in bottles.
