Limiting Beliefs

Whatever you give your attention to has the power to manifest itself in your life.  Limiting beliefs are those negative thoughts you think over and over and over again.  They’re the ones that create negative manifestations in your life and prevent you from creating the life you want to lead or prevent you from accomplishing your goals.

Limiting beliefs appear very powerful because they are things you have thought for a long time.  They come naturally to you because they have been ingrained in your brain and seem to be a part of who you are.

It’s like a snowball effect.  The more energy and time you give to those negative thoughts, the more you think them.  The greater hold they have on you.

You may have given them so much energy over the years that they are now the main thing you think about - all the time!

But the problem with these negative thoughts is that they can act like a brick wall holding you in place. They are invisible obstacles holding you back from success, turning your life into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Your limiting beliefs tell you something is impossible and so it is.

That’s why it’s important to identify your limiting beliefs!  Once you find your limiting beliefs, you can eliminate them!

One of the greatest ways to identify your limiting beliefs are using your feelings as a guide.  We knew all those feelings were good for something!;)

Are you scared, nervous, impatient, frustrated, obsessing, doubtful?  Well, guess what?! Whatever you’re thinking that is producing those feelings is a limiting belief.

Your negative feelings are how you identify self-limiting beliefs.

Don’t fight the negative feelings! Don’t try to resist them or suppress them! Just notice that they are there and allow them to be.  You’ll notice that they will start to fade on their own.

This week we would like you to use journaling as an exercise that helps you uncover your limiting beliefs by showing you what is going on in your head in a way you haven’t noticed. Please know this exercise is optional, but if you would like to share your thoughts, I’m sure our Facebook community would love to know your thoughts.

Use this exercise in conjunction with:

“Overcoming Self-Limiting Beliefs Worksheet”

Pick a goal or dream you want to manifest or an area where you feel stuck.

Start writing down anything that comes you and is in your head.  Like you’re downloading all your thoughts on paper.  Don’t edit anything.  Don’t dismiss anything.  It all matters.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

What will happen if your dream manifests?

What will you lose?

What might you have to change?

What might go wrong?

What can’t be changed that is preventing you from achieving your goal?

Where are you not good enough to get what you want?

Are you too tall?

Do you procrastinate too much?

What is it about this dream that scares you?

What are you trying to avoid?

Why isn’t it possible for you to manifest your dream?

What is preventing change?

What is keeping you stuck?

Why will things never change?

What are the obstacles?

Why don’t you deserve to get what you want?

Now look back over what you wrote.  Highlight every negative thought - everything that is the opposite of what you want to create, every complaint, every criticism.

You should see a pattern forming.  Some of the negative thoughts might overlap.

Everything you’ve found is a limiting belief!

Let’s take a look back over the last few weeks...what progress have you made towards your goals? Are there limiting beliefs that have been holding you back from making progress? Are you noticing all your progress, not just the number on the scale? Progress not just surround the scale or your physical appearance--but how do you feel?

How is has your relationship with food changed?

How is your energy?

How have you improved keeping commitments to yourself?

How do you feel about your progress?

If it is not what you would like it to be, what is standing in your way? Try using our Getting Clear Worksheet to gain additional insights. Part of your struggle--if you are struggling--could be related to beliefs about yourself or your life. We also encourage you to try using our Self Confidence Builder to work through those beliefs about yourself. And a reminder to use our Overcoming Self-Limiting Beliefs Worksheet to see yourself and your progress in a more positive light.
